Race Results: SoCal success and more CCCX domination

The racing season is now fully underway and Quadzilla racers have been earning some impressive results. Here are the highlights from the past month of racing.

US Cup Races at Bonelli Park and Fontana

On March 10th, a small group of Quadzillians traveled down south for the Rock and Road Cup West #2 at Bonelli Park, which is part of the US Cup series. Jamie Busch rode to an impressive 4th place in the Elite Women’s Pro XCT event. In Men’s Cat 1, Jon Smith also grabbed 4th place and Joseph Brody nabbed 10th place, strong results given the high level the competition.

Several weeks later would see Jon and Jamie heading south again for the Rock and Road Cup West #3 at Fontana, CA. On a technical, challenging course, Jamie proved too strong for the competition, winning the Pro Women’s Cross Country in commanding fashion, 5 minutes ahead of 2nd place. Way to kill it, Jamie! Our resident Mr. Smith also showed some excellent early season form, earning 3rd place in Cat 1 Men’s Cross Country.

Keyesville Classic

Now in its 24th year, the Keyesville Classic, held March 30 РApril 1,  featured a full weekend of racing in the scenic Kern River Valley outside of Bakersfield, CA. With Cross Country, Short Track, and Downhill events, and an All-Mountain Stage Race that involves doing all three on the same bike, the Keyesville Classic has something for everyone.

Joseph Brody and Alex Kramer competed in the Cross Country race, which was held on a fantastic 8 mile course that featured lots of fast, flowy singletrack and tough, punchy climbs. Alex finished in 4th place in Cat 1 Men 30-39, with Brody not too far behind in 6th place. New member Carol Boland tackled the All-Mountain Stage Race and earned an impressive 3rd place in Pro Women. Way to go Carol!

Next year Quadzilla is definitely coming back with the whole team to enjoy this great event.

March 10th also featured cross country racing at Fort Ord for CCCX #3. A large contingent of Quadzilla racers enjoyed the dry, sunny conditions. As we’ve come to expect, quite a few Quadzillians made the podium. Here are the top finishers:

Alex Kramer – 2nd place Cat 1 Men 35-44

Nicole Goebel – 1st place Cat 1 Women 35-44

Doug Baker – 1st place Cat 2 Men 19-34

Aaron Faupell – 3rd place Cat 2 Men 19-34

Marco Boldt – 5th place Cat 2 Men 35-44

Richard Jacinto – 5th place Cat 2 Men 45-54

Marco Soldano – 3rd place Cat 2 Single Speed

Carlos Esparzo – 2nd place Cat 3 Men 14-18

Cool Mountain Bike Race

Apparently some people just can’t get enough of racing. After having raced¬† CCCX#3 the day before, Rafael Ruiz, Richard Jacinto, and Marco Soldano decided to the double and race the Cool Moutain Bike Race on Sunday, March 11. Richard and Rafael even managed to get 3rd place in their respective classes. Nicely done, guys!

Winter finally decided to arrive in California at the end of March, and unfortunately she brought some rain with her, which delayed the CCCX#4 race by a few weeks. Fortunately, mother nature let up just enough to allow the April 7th race at Toro Park to go ahead as planned. Unlike the Fort Ord courses, Toro Park features some sustained climbing and a 2 mile ripping singletrack descent. After doing multiple laps around this fun but challenging course, Quadzilla once again showed its podium dominance.

William Kemper – 2nd place Cat 1 Men 35-44

Alex Kramer – 3rd place Cat 1 Men 35-44

Steve Wade – 4th place Cat 1 Men 45-54

Doug Baker – 2nd place Cat 2 Men 19-34

Aaron Faupell – 4th place Cat 2 Men 19-34

Paul Marshall – 3rd place Cat 2 Men 35-44

Carlos Esparza – 1st place Cat 3 Men 14-18
